Chloroacetic Acid

Chloroacetic Acid finds application in production of drugs, dyes, pesticides, & herbicide as well. It has molecular formula C2H3ClO2 with molar mass of 94.49 g/mol. It is an organochlorine compound which also has a role to play in organic synthesis. This acid has high purity level and appears as colorless to white crystalline solid with density of 1.58 g/cm3. It is soluble in water, acetone, methanol, & chloroform. Chloroacetic Acid can industrially be produced by hydrolysis of trichloroethylene in presence of a catalyst, most commonly sulfuric acid. It has boiling & melting points of 189.3 & 63 degrees Celsius respectively.
